The reign of Westerns continues on Paramount+ with the series Lawmen: Bass Reeves. From Chad Feehan, Taylor Sheridan, and David Oyelowo, the much-anticipated series premiered on November 5 after years in the making.
Lawmen: Bass Reeves follows the incredible real-life story of Bass Reeves, the first black U.S. Deputy Marshal to serve West of the Mississippi River. After escaping slavery, Reeves served for over 30 years as a federal peace officer in Indian Territory, arresting over 3,000 criminals without ever getting injured.
The series stars David Oyelowo, Dennis Quaid, Donald Sutherland, Lauren E. Banks, Demi Singleton, Forrest Goodluck, Barry Pepper, Garrett Hedlund, Shea Whigham, Mo Brings Plenty, and Joaquina Kalukango.
Lawmen: Bass Reeves is available exclusively on the streaming service Paramount+. The first two episodes premiered on November 5, with the remaining six episodes premiering weekly.
Lawmen: Bass Reeves is not available to watch on Netflix, Peacock, or Hulu. The series is a Paramount+ exclusive, so it is not available on other streaming services as they do not have rights to the series.
While the series is currently only available to stream on Paramount+, the first episode is available to watch for free on Amazon Prime Video. However, like other Paramount+ original series like 1883 and 1923, Lawmen: Bass Reeves will likely be available to purchase on Amazon Prime Video at a later time.
The first episode is also available to watch for free on YouTube.
Paramount+ Essential is available for $5.99 a month or $59.99 annually with the package including thousands of episodes of TV shows and movies with limited ads. Paramount+ with SHOWTIME is available at $11.99 a month or $119.99 a year which includes access to both streaming services as well as no ads except for live TV and a few shows. The essential plan also offers subscribers the ability to download their favorite shows to their mobile devices.
Episodes of Lawmen: Bass Reeves premiere weekly in the United States and Canada at 3:00 a.m. ET. In the UK, episodes are released weekly at 8:00 a.m. GMT.
The limited series is set to feature a total of eight episodes. Originally set to be a spin-off series of the Yellowstone prequel 1883, the series is now a stand-alone story.
“I’ve been trying to get this one made for over eight years now—and I have Taylor to thank for rejuvenating the Western. He’s really an inspiration in terms of what’s possible when you have passion, when you have talent, and when you somehow have the energy that he has. So it’s been a really great ride,” David Oyelowo told Esquire.
