Yellowstone Dutton Ranch is under constant threats from those eager to get their hands on the ranch’s valuable land. This has led the Duttons to fight dirty, which means they are never truly safe from outside forces.
Many of the Duttons have found their lives in danger at one point or another.
From bombs to kidnappings and drive-by shootings, the Duttons have found themselves under attack on multiple occasions.
Yellowstone constantly keeps its fans on the edge of their seats with the fates of its characters.
In the very first episode of the show, Lee Dutton was shot and killed in a dispute over cattle.
So just who is behind the attacks on the Duttons? Unfortunately for the Duttons, there is not just one person out to get them.
The Dutton family has been the subject of multiple attacks.
People who have tried to kill the Duttons include the Beck brothers, Garrett Randall, and Terrell Riggins with the help of the Montana Free Militia.
While they have made it out alive from all of these attacks, there have been some very close calls. Fortunately, all of the Duttons are fighters and have been able to recover from the attempts to kill them.
In season two the Beck brothers, Malcolm and Teal, become enemies of John Dutton and his family. The brothers are hungry businessmen and real estate agents that have their own ideas for the land of Yellowstone Dutton Ranch and Broken Rock Reservation.
In their plot against John Dutton, the Beck brothers send two masked assailants to attack Beth in her office. They tie up and brutally beat Beth and her assistant Jason, who they end up killing.
Fortunately, Beth sent a text to Rip saying ‘office help’ when the attackers arrived, allowing him to show up in the nick of time. He is able to save Beth and kill the attackers. While Beth is left badly beaten and shaken up, ultimately she is alright.
Later on, the Beck brothers kidnap Tate Dutton from the ranch. As soon as his family realizes he is gone, they rush out to save him after connecting the dots that the Beck brothers are behind the kidnapping.
After getting information about his whereabouts from the brothers, a group led by John rescues Tate. Kayce finds a frightened Tate in a bathroom of a house with his head shaved.
While Tate is unharmed physically, he is traumatized by the whole ordeal.
While searching for Tate, Kayce finds Teal Beck sitting on the toilet in his mansion. He proceeds to shoot him in the stomach.
Kayce then threatens him in order to find out the whereabouts of Tate. After getting the information he needs, Kayce shoots Teal in the chest and leg, killing him while he sits on the toilet.
While Malcolm was fleeing from the scene John shoots him. John then sits with Malcolm as he bleeds out, only to then walk away, leaving Malcolm to die alone.
At the end of season three, Beth, Kayce, and John find themselves under attack. Beth’s assistant opens a package which turns out to be a bomb, John gets shot while helping a mother change a flat tire and Kayce gets attacked in his office.
Monica and Tate also find themselves in danger back on the ranch. A masked man attacks them in their home but fortunately, Tate is able to shoot him before escaping to the bunkhouse.
It isn’t until the season four premiere that we learn the outcomes of the attacks. Beth, Kayce, Monica, Tate, and John all survive, though John was in a coma for two months after the attacks.
At this point, it is unclear who ordered the hit on the Duttons. However, it is later revealed that Jamie’s biological father Garrett Randall is behind the attacks.
Randall ordered his former cellmate, Terrell Riggins, to carry out the attacks on the Duttons.
Who is Terrell Riggins?
Terrell Riggins is Garrett Randall’s former cellmate who is serving a life sentence in jail. He is the leader of the Montana Free Militia and a former Green Beret who was dishonorably discharged.
After militia member Chester Spears reveals he was a part of a hitjob while gambling at Painted Horse Casino he is captured and killed.
After this, Jamie did some digging and found Terrell Riggins and learned about his connection with Garrett.
Jamie then visits Riggins in jail, offering him full immunity and protection in exchange for the name of the attacker. Jamie then learns that his biological father Garrett is responsible for ordering the attacks on the Duttons.
Jamie keeps this information to himself, however, Beth later learns the true identity of the attacker after paying a visit to Riggins in jail.

Who are the Militia in Yellowstone?
The Montana Free Militia is an organization led by Terrell Riggins. The organization consists of an off-the-grid group of mercenaries, many of which were former military.
The group hides out in the Crazies, a mountain range in Montana located in the Northern Rocky Mountain Range.
Not only did Riggins use the militia to attack the Duttons, but the Beck brothers also hired them to kidnap and kill their enemies.
Jamie kills Garrett Randall after he is threatened by Beth. Beth told Jamie she would report Jamie and Garrett to the police, she would tell Rip that Garrett tried to kill her or that Jamie himself could kill Garrett.
Jamie plead with Beth to change her mind, but she would not budge. Realizing there is no other way out, Jamie decides to kill his father himself.
After a heartfelt conversation where Garrett tells Jamie he loves him, Jamie shoots him in the head. Jamie then takes his body to the train station to dispose of it.
Beth is there taking photos, allowing John to have Jamie under his control.
