Stardust stood out in every film he starred in thanks to his stunning palomino coat. He had a dark golden body, with a striking white blaze, four white socks, and a gorgeous white mane and tail.

Though Scott and Stardust were a popular duo in Western movies, Scott didn’t actually own Stardust. However, Stardust’s owners made sure that Scott could ride the palomino for most of his movies. They particularly made sure that Scott had access to Stardust when filming movies in the Alabama Hills area near Lone Pine, California.
2. Scott Rode Stardust in More Than a Dozen Films
The incredible team of Scott and Stardust made over a dozen film appearances together from 1948 to 1960. They became quite a popular pair in Old Hollywood, with many admirers.
Scott did most of his riding movies and became an accomplished rider throughout his career.
3. Scott Confirmed in Interviews That Stardust Was His Favorite Horse
Though Scott rode different horses throughout his career, he stated in an interview that Stardust was his favorite horse. It is clear in their work together that they made quite the team on screen.

4. Stardust Was an American Saddlebred
The beautiful Stardust was a palomino American Saddlebred. A fan once wrote to Scott asking if Stardust was a Haflinger due to his striking golden color, but Scott confirmed that his equine co-star was indeed a Saddlebred.
5. Stardust Lived to Be 29 Years Old
Unfortunately, not much is known about Stardust after his career as a movie star. In fact, there is hardly anything at all about where he ended up after he retired. However, sources say that Stardust lived to be 29 years old.

Did Randolph Scott Ride the Same Horse in All of His Movies?
Though Stardust wasn’t the only horse Scott rode during his movie career, he was his primary mount during films. Some of their most popular movies include Colt. .45 and Tall Man Riding.

Did Any Other Actors Ride Stardust?
Though there is not much confirmation if other actors rode Stardust, sources believe that Alan Ladd rode the palomino in The Iron Mistress.
Randolph Scott also had a stunt double for certain scenes that would ride Stardust. Hal Needham even stood in as Scott’s stunt double in Comanche Station.
What Was The Last Film Randolph Scott and Stardust Appeared In?
The last film Scott and Stardust appeared in together was Comanche Station in 1960. Scott stars as the main character in the film, as he frees a woman from being held captive by Comanches.
After this film, Scott went into retirement from acting. However, he came out of retirement in 1962 to star in Ride The High Country. Scott did not ride Stardust for this film but instead a dark buckskin horse.
