Famous Palomino Horses

While palominos can be found in several different horse breeds it is not a common color. This striking coat color comes in different shades including light, champagne, pearl, golden, and chocolate. Though a relatively rare color, there have been some stunning palomino horses that have left their mark on the equine world.


Considered by many to be the most iconic horse from old Hollywood, Trigger was the beautiful palomino stallion of movie star Roy Rogers. Trigger knew over 100 tricks which he would regularly perform on-screen, earning him the title “the smartest horse in movies.”

Originally named Golden Cloud, his sire was a Thoroughbred and his dam was believed to be a Quarter horse cross. The original Trigger is said to have appeared alongside Roy Rogers in every film, however, there were also other horses that played Trigger as well, including Trigger Jr.

Bamboo Harvester

Bamboo Harvester played the beloved role of Mister Ed in the TV series of the same name. The gorgeous palomino was a Saddlebred/Half-Arabian cross.

Bamboo Harvester portrayed Mister Ed for the entire running of the TV series. Prior to becoming a movie star, Bamboo Harvester was a parade and show horse. He also had a stunt double by the name of Pumpkin.


Tilly played the role of Argo, Xena’s trusty mount in the series Xena: Warrior Princess. While a total of three horses played Argo in the series Tilly was the primary star for the role.

The pretty palomino was said to be actress Lucy Lawless’ favorite mount. Upon retiring from her life as a movie star, Tilly went on to give riding lessons at a New Zealand riding stable to beginner students.
