One of the most successful horses to star in Yellowstone is Metallic Cat. Metallic Cat is a striking red roan stallion with a stellar show record as a cutting horse.

Metallic Cat stole his scene on the show, as people couldn’t get enough of the magnificent stallion. He is not only one of the most successful cutting horses but also the sire of many champion horses as well.

Metallic Cat Life and History

Metallic Cat is a red roan Quarter horse stallion born in 2005 that stands at 14.1 hands tall. He is sired by the stallion High Brow Cat and out of the mare Chers Shadow.

Metallic Cat had a successful career as a show horse in cutting competitions. The stallion won the coveted 2008 NCHA (National Cutting Horse Association) Open Futurity Champion.

Some of his many other wins include the 2009 NCHA Super Stakes Open Reserve Champion, Breeders Invitational Open Derby Champion, Abilene Spectacular 4-Year-Old Open Champion and Music City Open Derby Champion.

Metallic Cat won an impressive $637,711 in lifetime earnings. He was the 2009 Equi-Stat #1 money-earner and in 2010 became an inductee in the NCHA Hall of Fame.

After an impeccable show career, Metallic Cat retired to stud. He has proven to be a top breeding stallion, taking home the 2016, 2017 and 2018 NCHA Sire of the Year awards.

Affectionately known as Denver, his offspring have already produced over $40 million in earnings. His offspring earn an average of $7.3 million each year. He is also the National Reined Cow Horse Association’s (NRCHA) first Five Million Dollar sire.

Metallic Cat’s current breeding fee is $10,000 and he stands at Brazos Valley Stallion Station. His offspring have not only found success in cutting, but also in other western disciplines as well.

Who Owns Metallic Cat?

Metallic Cat is owned by Bobby Patton, of the Rocking P Ranch in Weatherford, Texas. Pattion purchased Metallic Cat in 2017 for a reported estimated $14 million. This is one of the most expensive sales in the cutting horse industry.

Patton also owns Spots Hot, an NCHA Futurity Champion and inductee of the NCHA Hall of Fame. Patton is a member of the Guggenheim Baseball Management Group, which owns the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team.

Prior to Patton, Metallic Cat had been owned by Alvin and Becky Fults. The Fults had owned Metallic Cat since he was a three-year-old.

What Episode of Yellowstone Did Metallic Cat Star In?

Metallic Cat starred in season four episode nine of Yellowstone “No Such Thing as Fair.” Metallic Cat’s owner, Bobby Patton, won the rights to have him star in an episode of Yellowstone at a charity auction for the cost of $165,000. The proceeds from the auction went to the NCHA Charities Foundation.

In the episode, Jimmy attends a cutting horse event that stars Metallic Cat, who receives a warm welcome from the audience.

The Duttons then become co-owners of the captivating stallion with Rocking P Ranch. Jimmy is then instructed to drive Metallic Cat from Texas to the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch.

While his role was relatively small in the episode, Metallic Cat’s cameo did not go unnoticed. Many of his fans were ecstatic to see him land a role in Yellowstone.
