In June 2018, Hannah was competing at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, AB, Canada when she fell from her horse shattering her tibia and fibula. After refusing to jump, her horse quickly turned to avoid the obstacle and Hannah’s foot got stuck in the magnetic stirrup, leading to a dangerous fall.
Six hours of surgery was required to treat the damage, after which came months of intensive physical therapy. As a result, the equestrian athlete was unable to compete for a period of 7 months.
Despite her misfortune, Hannah considers herself to be lucky regarding injuries in the sport. Her point was that in over 2 decades of riding, none of her broken bones so far required surgery.

Hannah Margaret Selleck Has Her Own Breeding Farm
In 2010, Hannah Selleck founded her own breeding operation, Descanso Farm. She was still a student at the time, but her father supported her idea of producing high-quality sports horses in the United States.
The thought of breeding her top jumping mare Tosca was what inspired the business idea. Hannah named her farm after the family ranch, with “descanso” meaning “rest” in Spanish. The estate is located close to El Campeon Farms in Thousand Oaks, California, not far from the family ranch.
Hannah is fully in charge of the operation and manages everything from the initial breeding selection to the show ring. She supervises a small team that includes a head groom and an exercise rider, while also arranging transport for up to four horses to competitions.
Producing High Quality Horses the Right Way
The breeding farm’s priority is not to get horses to show ring fast, but to do it right so the horses can have a long career. After the foals are separated from their mothers, they travel to Rancho Corazon in New Mexico to live out their early years on large grassy fields with other young horses. This wouldn’t be possible on Descanso Farm because of the heavy California draughts.
When they are mature enough, the youngsters are backed at Colts Unlimited in Wyoming. After learning the fundamentals of ridden work, the horses return to Hannah to begin training over fences.
