Corbin attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock where he originally studied law. However, his friend G.W. Bailey convinced him to pursue acting instead. Corbin graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in theatre arts.
In the 1960s, Corbin began his career as a Shakespearean actor. Barry Corbin’s first significant television role came in the early 1970s, with appearances in shows like The Andros Targets and The Six Million Dollar Man. However, it was his role as Maurice Minnifield in the critically acclaimed 1990s series Northern Exposure that brought him widespread recognition and fame.
